Active transport and play, the perfect match, Play Today Training Session with Dr Hulya Gilbert />

Hulya Gilbert is an urban planner, demographer and researcher with over 15 years of industry experience with both local government and non-government sectors. This presentation will explore the distinctive ways that children’s everyday lives and movements are constrained by car-privileging policies and discourses.

Despite the well reported social and environmental issues associated with car based mobilities, in reality, the spatial and social exclusion that children face is often overlooked owing to the prevalence of car use across Australian societies. As a result, many public places, such as local streets, become hostile environments for children and young people.
